Day 7 in Peru: Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu has been on our visit list for a while. It's our spring break destination.

We bought a PeruRail train ticket from Cusco to Agua Caliente station. The first part of the rail is in maintenance. PeruRail offers bus to take us from Cusco to Parcha Station. From Parcha Station, we get on board the Expedition Train to Agua Caliente Station.

The Bus to Parcha Station is very bumpy. My 12-year old son vomited during this part of the journey. The train ride to Agua Caliente is very enjoyable. The windows on the train ceiling give good view of the sky and the mountain.

Once I stepped out the Agus Calientes Station, I regretted that we didn't plan another day at this beautiful mountain town. We had bought the same day return train ticket to Cusco.

We had lunch in a Peruvian restaurant.

A restaurant worker blew the stove with her mouth.

We took a bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu entrance.

Once we climbed to the Sun Gate, the view was breath taking. I felt like in a dreaming world.

It's a raining day. When the rain came, we just waited patiently. The gradual disappearance of the clouds unveil the mystic lost world of Inca.

Machu Picchu was rediscovered by Yale history professor Hiram Bingham in 1911. All the Inca cites or civilization were destroyed by Spaniards. Machu Picchu was in such a hidden place that Spaniards didn't find it or knew about it.

Day 6 in Peru: Cusco

We took a flight from Lima to Cusco, the capital of Inca empire.

Cusco's elevation is 3,399 m (11,152 ft). We all suffered altitude sickness. The best way to cope the altitude sickness is drinking coca tea. Our hotel provides coca tea all day long.

We took a 4-hour Cusco City  and vicinity Inca ruin tour.

Day 5 in Peru: Paracas National Reserve

In the back ground you can see a lot of see lions.

Day 4 in Peru: Huacachina

We drove to ICA area. It's a desert area. We stayed at Huacachina which is a oasis in the desert. My husband and two sons went for dune buggying and sandboarding in the desert.

The speed of buggy is too fast for me. I stayed at the hotel.
